Over 100 parliamentarians and liberals assembled the in Abidjan to discuss “liberal solutions for Africa” at the annual conference of Alliance of Democrats for Europe, Pacific, Africa and the Caribbean (ALDEPAC). The Conference was opened by Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic and LI Vice President with words: “You are on liberal land… Côte d'Ivoire is a liberal country', before he underlined his political approach “based on liberal economy.” LI President Hans van Baalen MEP addressed the delegates:

“Today Abidjan is a capital of democracy of Africa. It was the Ivorians, the Africans themselves, not the West, that have asked for a change, for real elections and democracy. President Ouattara has pledged to offer that and he has our full support.” Welcoming the adoption of a “Pan-African Liberal Manifesto”, Lamine Ba, LI Vice President on the Bureau and ALN President reminded the participants: “the foundation of this document is in the LI Oxford Manifestos from 1947 and 1997”. Next LI Congress will take place in Abidjan on 17-21 October 2012, under patronage of President Ouattara.
