LI President in Sofia: "We Witnessed a Fearless Man and Party” - Hoofdinhoud
LI President Hans van Baalen MEP addressed the Conference of the Movement for Rights and Freedom (LI Full member), minutes after it was announced that the outgoing party leader Ahmed Dogan has been well after a gas pistol pointed at his head failed to fire.
Expressing relief after the shocking scenes, on behalf of the present LI Bureau members Van Baalen expressed clear support from Liberal International for Mr. Dogan and for the party. 'We witnessed a fearless man, and a fearless party,' stated the LI President.
In his speech after the Conference resumed, in front of 2000 party delegates Van Baalen praised MRF and its leadership: 'Bulgaria is a stabile country, MRF plays a vital role in maintaining stability in Bulgaria', and continued: 'I very much support the fact that the Congress was resumed, because assassins should not be allowed to destroy democracy.'
Returning to the Conference hall with a standing ovation, Mr. Dogan confirmed that he is stepping down, paving the way to Lyoutvi Mestan MP to succeed him as MRF leader.
