ALDE MEP, Hans van Baalen, (VVD, The Netherlands) President of Honour of Liberal International criticizes the inclusion of the Patriotic Front in a new Bulgarian Government under GERB leader Borisov.

"The Patriotic Front, as well as ATAKA, are forces on the extreme right wing and have constantly spoken out against minorities and European co-operation.

Borisov missed the chance to create a broad based Government in which the Movement of Rights and Freedom (MRF), one of the winners of the general elections, could participate. Instead he has chosen for an unbalanced Government with extreme populist input."

Van Baalen urged the EPP Group in the European Parliament to make Borisov change his mind and to form a Government excluding the Patriotic Front and including pro-European parties. This would provide the next Bulgarian Government with a sound pro-European, pro-Western and pro civil liberties basis in the Bulgarian Parliament.

ALDE MEP, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, (MFR, Bulgaria) President of Youth MRF warns about the danger which lies ahead Bulgaria's democracy:

“The so called, Pro-European reformist government relies on the xenophobic political force - the Patriotic front. The first idea of the Borisov Cabinet is to interfere and impose influence on the media by breaching the Law on the Electronic Media Council. This idea is against Democracy and as MRF Leader, Mr. Lyutvi Mestan, said “Bulgaria is about to make a turn from its Euro-Atlantic path, taken 25 years ago.”
