In a joint series with the European Liberal Forum, FNF Europe has gathered liberal voices on the topic of European Security and Defence. This time President of the ALDE Party and MEP Hans van Baalen has given us an exclusive outlook on challenges and developments to watch out for in 2017.
According to MEP van Baalen a high level of attention will have to be paid to the conflict in Ukraine and Russia’s military behavior, as well as the new US administration of the president-elect Donald Trump.
The new administration’s support of the military capabilities through NATO in its current form seems unlikely in his view. The EU will have to step up its expenses for security and defence substantially, in order to effectively make improvements in this field.
