A major priority of the European Institutions is to inform citizens and the media not only of the activities of the European Union, but of the objectives and the political stakes of its actions. In order to fulfil the needs of the Institutions in terms of providing highly qualified staff in the field of Communication and Information , the European Personnel Selection Office published two open competitions on 28 February 2007, one for Administrators (AD5) the other for Assistants (AST3). These competitions are the first of their kind aimed at specialists in Communication. It concerns the implementation of the Commission's Action Plan on Communication ( http://ec.europa.eu/dgs/communication/pdf/communication_com_en.pdf

PDF) adopted on the initiative of Vice-President Margot Wallström, and which aims, amongst other things, to render Communication a profession in its own right within the EU's institutions.

The aim of the Administrator competition is to recruit members of staff whose principle tasks will involve analyses and administrative, advisory and drafting work. Successful candidates of the Assistant competition will provide assistance and perform support and logistical tasks. Detailed descriptions of the duties and the eligibility criteria, particularly concerning qualifications, professional experience and linguistic knowledge can be found in the notices for open competition. Candidates will firstly have to take a series of admission tests on computer. The competition itself will be made up of written tests and an interview.

The competitions were published in the Official Journal C 45 A. The deadline for registration is 28 March 2007. The number of successful candidates sought is 125 for the Administrator competition and 110 for the Assistant competition.

Further details and information can be found in the notices of open competition published on the EPSO website: http://europa.eu/epso.
