Focus on Irish Educational Reform

The EU’s Education Committee will meet in the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, for the final Dublin-based education and training event of the Irish presidency on June 13th and 14th.

The Education Committee, the working group of the EU’s Council of Education Ministers, sets, discusses and agrees the agenda for meetings of the Council which meets three times a year. It is customary for the Presidency country to host the final Education Committee meeting.

This session will provide a useful forum to discuss EU-wide development and cooperation in education and training, and for the European Commission and upcoming Lithuanian Presidency i to inform member states on upcoming developments and initiatives.

Ministers will also be updated on the progress of negotiations with the European Parliament, led by the Irish presidency, to agree Erasmus for All, and the Commission’s proposal for an integrated programme in the areas of education, training, youth and sport for 2014-2020.

Other items on the agenda include presentations by the Commission on the topics of International Cooperation in Education and Training, Opening up Education to New Technologies, and First Ideas towards a European Area for Skills and Qualifications.

The meeting will conclude with a presentation by the Presidency on Irish Educational Reform: Literacy and Numeracy Strategy and Lower Secondary Curriculum Reform, as well as a presentation by the incoming Lithuanian presidency on its forthcoming work programme.
