Europarl TV issued a short documentary to investigate the benefits of ERDF funding in the Member States who joined the European Union in 2004. The documentary concentrates on the question: has the EU regional policy really been beneficial for those countries? It focuses on Poland, and in particular on the West Pomeranian region in the North West of Poland who has been allocated EUR 3 billion of ERDF investments for 2007-2013. The region has used those investments to improve basic infrastructure (roads, public transport, railways), to increase employment rates and attract investors as well as to enhance local tourism and cultural activities. Overall, the verdict is quite positive showing that Poland has benefited enormously from the EU's regional policy enabling the country to catch up with the rest of Europe.
